NO TECH SUPPORT Bluehost has hired people who are so clueless, they have no ability to even address the simplest of issues. Things like redirects, robot files, htaccess issues…not a chance these people even understands what you’re talking about. NO TICKETING SYSTEM WTF? A tech company with no support ticket system? On the occasions when they’ve told me they’ll escalate an issue, it just goes into the ozone. Not once have I ever heard back from a rep who has “escalated” an issue. AUTOMATICALLY CHANGING SITE CONFIG…NO NOTIFICATION About a month ago, I started experiencing strange problems with a wordpress plugin. That vendor’s tech support advised the issue was probably caching – a feature that I had never explicitly activated. Turns out – Bluehost recently started deploying the Endurance Caching plugin (made by…you guessed it…their parent company). I de-activated caching. 2 weeks later – Bluehost updated my htaccess to bypass my WP admin settings. A supervisor gave me a solution – keep deactivating the Bluehost plugin, because Bluehost won’t stop updating my htaccess!!! WP MEDIA UPLOAD SIZE LIMITS 2 months ago, I had no problems uploading media of any size. In Jan 2018, Bluehost changed the shared server max upload size. No notification to customers. CSR’s JUST MAKE STUFF UP When I brought the above problem to the attention of Bluehost’s intrepid tech support team, the rep told me to use FTP. When I told her I would need to add yet another plugin to update the WordPress media list, she told me it wasn’t necessary and that WP would automatially recognize any media manually uploaded via FTP. This is just a partial list. I’m in the process of migrating off Bluehost. This isn’t mis-management. This is a cynical and deliberate effort to slowly rip off customers, one tweak at a time.
We have resources – CPU, memory, entry processes, I/O – at the ready for when you need them (we’ll alert you when you’re close.) Or you can really stay on top of things through our robust stats dashboard. Either way, leveling up is a one-click affair.
Please keep in mind that in a few cases, we have had to work with customers to reduce the number of files they are using. Typically, these file counts are in the tens of thousands, and we’ve been able to help our customers manage them effectively.
Ryan Frankel (HostingAdvice.com): HostGator has been around for over a decade and is well-respected for their large number of servers and consistent reliability. Known mostly as a shared hosting provider, HostGator still supplies decent dedicated and VPS options if you need your site to… Go to full review »

GreenGeeks didn’t do badly at all in the performance testing. After a big initial spike in response time, the server settled down and returned the sub one second response times that we like to see. There was a bit more variance throughout the test than we normally like to see, but nothing that would indicate any type of major issue. For the most part things were pretty solid.
WordPress is a bit less customizable than other hosts, though. For example, certain plugins aren’t permitted, and some plugins can’t be altered. Also, if you choose WordPress as your host, then you will also have to use WordPress as your CMS; it won’t allow you to use an outside CMS.
Ryan Frankel (HostingAdvice.com): JustHost has a lot of free extras that come with their services, making them a good, moderately-priced shared host. Their website is easy to use and clean. Their web administration panel is designed in the same vein and it makes using JustHost a pleasure when… Go to full review »
The company has a wide range of offerings, but by far, the stand-out feature MochaHost provides is a 180-day money-back guarantee. That’s the best we’ve seen so far, and it removed just about all of the risk from any hosting experience.
It’s pretty straightforward: Customers who use Web Hosting can obtain unlimited disk space, data transfer, and email storage if they use their services consistently with the Terms of Service and these paragraphs.

In other words, web hosting is the process of using a server to host a site. It also comes in diverse shapes and sizes according to the users’ needs. For example, our free hosting services are best suited for small projects, businesses and to test out your coding skills.
HostGator is a full-service hosting company, with plans for almost any need. Whether you’re starting out and need a very basic shared site, or need to be able to operate your own machine dedicated solely to your company, HostGator has a service that can help.
That’s a good list, thank you. Unfortunately I’d like to see included in the list the cons… e.g. “Good but doesn’t…” I had an account on 000webhost that I had nothing but trouble with as soon as it reached a certain bandwidth – when you’re starting out you are unaware of all this. But it is good to know. Thanks again for the list – gonna try freehosting eu! Cheers!
Wix won’t let you use your own domain (even if you purchase it through them) unless you upgrade to a premium account. I also can’t use my newly purchased domain somewhere else for 60 days after purchasing through them. If you want a free site without using your own domain, Wix has some nice templates.
Reseller hosting is ideal for users who are interested in using his or her allotted hard drive space and bandwidth to host websites on behalf of third-parties. To do this, the reseller will need to purchase the host’s services wholesale and then sell them to customers separately for a potential profit at retail prices.
FastComet immediately impressed with its beautifully designed website, giving us all the information we needed about packages and service tiers within a few mouse clicks. Beyond its excellent presentation, FastComet offers a host of tools that let you optimize its services. Its knowledge base is comprehensive yet approachable, with both written and video guides aimed at every skill level. FastComet also clocks in at 99.99 percent uptime — the highest rating attainable through a third party verification system. It’s highly unlikely that your readers will ever see an error page when they visit your website.
You’ve got to keep an eye on both of these metrics because they indicate your site’s quality of performance. Uptime refers to the total time that your website is up and running with no problems. Downtime refers to when the time when your website is offline and unavailable to visitors and potential customers.
I would remove 000webhost – they were hacked and it was found they stored user passwords in plain-text, which is inexcusable for a technology/hosting company. Millions of user accounts were compromised and payment/credit card details were stolen costing countless amount of damage.
New features: as the competition among hosting companies becomes intenser, more and more new features are introduced such as website promotion services(you can even get 100$ google adwords credit or bing/yahoo ads credits.), website seo services(make your website rank well in the search results of google/yahoo/bing), website vulnerability scan services, and so on and so forth.
Take our little joke about Amazon above. If Amazon decided to host its website using HostGator’s unmetered Hatchling Plan for a couple of dollars per month, Amazon would crash the server it was running on. But more important to Amazon, crashing the server means that its website becomes unavailable, costing them millions of dollars.
Firstly, know what type of website you’ll be hosting. If it’s a small blog or a personal site, our free hosting is the perfect place to start. However, if it’s an international e-shop with lots of recurring visitors, you may want something with a little extra kick.
These reviews are based only on the shared hosting plans. We don’t take into account all the VPS, Dedicated and Cloud plans since they are generally more expensive (and less interesting to a general audience) and would make comparison between companies impossible.
GreenGeeks is an excellent green web host. While regular prices start at $9.95, you can occasionally grab a great deal (right now $2.95 holiday promo). They offer a 30-day money back guarantee (minus setup and domain fees).
Also, you should consider how professional the subdomain would look. For example, an address ‘sitename.web.com’ looks and sounds much better than ‘sitename.freesquarespacewebsite.com’ (these are not the subdomains used by the companies mentioned). Once again, this is important if you want visitors to the website, a more simple and clean domain is very important in terms of Google search position and memorability. Visitors are much less likely to (sometimes simply can’t) revisit a website if they can’t remember the domain name!
Single page hosting is generally sufficient for personal web pages. Personal web site hosting is typically free, advertisement-sponsored, or inexpensive. Business web site hosting often has a higher expense depending upon the size and type of the site.
