We searched each website to see if they offered any of the following: a knowledge base with tutorials, a forum for user-to-user discussions, and a company blog or news section. It’s fairly easy to have a blog; most companies offer one, even if they only update it once a year. We liked seeing user forums for the peer discussion, though we gave the most points to companies with knowledge bases — a section devoted to providing guides, tutorials, and diagnostics to help clients learn about building and running a website. All but four of our 49 web hosts offered knowledge bases — though Midphase hides theirs as a “Help Center” — so we prioritized those that were easy to search, with comprehensive topics and in-depth responses
We scoured the internet for the best hosting that no money can buy. Options abound for the ultra-beginners just getting started on their first website, amateur designers wanting to try out a different hosting company’s service and support, as well as advanced developers looking for a spot to house their new project.
Ever spent hours looking for a lost or corrupted file or folder? It can bring you to tears. For C$2.99/mo, you can make sure it never happens again. Site Backup & Restore saves all your website files to the cloud once a day.
If you’re using a business credit card to place your order, the wait can be longer. We found that some companies needed additional information to verify our identity: discrepancies between your name and the card name can raise red flags for fraud. Usually, you’ll need to make a 10 minute phone call to the company’s billing department and provide a scan of a government-issued ID to straighten things out.
We are probably the only free web hosting company that has proof for 99.9% uptime guarantee, with most of the servers reaching an excellent 99.9% uptime. Can your current hosting provider show you any proof for that 99.9% uptime they guarantee? Check uptime.
Once you choose your provider, it’s time for you to open an account with the monthly plan that fits your needs. If you still have questions about which plan is suitable for you, call their customer support staff and have them assist you through the registration process. Companies will generally charge a credit card on a monthly basis, however, some companies will also offer discounts for paying a yearly payment at once.

When it comes to server operating systems, Linux is typically the default option. Still, some services offer a choice of Linux or Windows hosting. If you have specific server-side applications that require Windows, such as SQL Server or a custom application written in .NET, then you need to make sure your web host has Windows hosting. But don’t let the idea of a Linux host intimidate you. Nowadays, most web hosts offer a graphical interface or a control panel to simplify server administration and website management. Instead of typing at the command line, you’ll click easily identifiable icons.
In regards to the best free hosts, we can suggest to check the following list of the top 10 free hosting providers that we’d recommend to consider using to host your free web site, weblog, community forums, image gallery, etc.:
Website Builder also offers business email, with your own domain. You’ll look a lot more professional using a business email account than one that’s derived from one of those commodity email services everyone else is using.
I’ve been using Hostinger free plan for a few months now, strange didn’t find them on the list, found their CPanel very user friendly, perfect for such beginners like myself. Auto Install feature helps too.
GreenGeeks didn’t do badly at all in the performance testing. After a big initial spike in response time, the server settled down and returned the sub one second response times that we like to see. There was a bit more variance throughout the test than we normally like to see, but nothing that would indicate any type of major issue. For the most part things were pretty solid.
« Your web site deserves the best. Our easy to use business class web hosting combines all the features you need with top technical support, enterprise hardware, and our corporate commitment to quality.
None of us wants to pay more than necessary when we buy something, and this is particularly true of hosting services. The reality is, however, that you’ll have to spend more in the long run if your hosting choice goes wrong. That said, it is possible to find a reliable cheap hosting plan.
All of our top picks include most add-ons and upsells for free, like daily backups and basic levels of SSL encryption. But we recommend everyone also pay the $10 a year for private domain registration. It’ll keep your personal information out of the internet’s required registration database, WHOIS. Instead of listing your phone and address, your server will list a proxy, so you won’t have to contend with spam calls to your real phone number. (One tester from our original review on web hosting, published in 2016, has just recently stopped receiving daily telemarketing calls — well over year later.)
A complex site calls for a more comprehensive package that provides database support and application development platforms (e.g. ASP.NET, ColdFusion, Java EE, Perl/Plack, PHP or Ruby on Rails). These facilities allow customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and content management. Also, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is typically used for websites that wish to keep the data transmitted more secure.
Your business web hosting plan needs to offer specific features to help you gain a competitive edge. After all, to be competitive, your business website should do more than simply provide visitors with information.
The prices are interesting, given the fact that you pay with credit. Actually, that thing is a bit tricky and you have to pay attention. They try to explain the whole process in this https://www.siteground.co.uk/tutorials/getting_started/resellers/credits.htm, but I find it hard to understand.
Just an fyi about 000.webhost: it suffered a ‘massive php security breach’ in late Oct 2015 and the entire host shut down for four days. Ever since, the service has been abysmal. The user support page has been defaulted to a Facebook page, where comments and concerns are going unanswered, and most of the domain features no longer function correctly, or at all (eg, file manager and FTP merely re-open the ‘dashboard’ page, delete site no longer functions, etc.)

Viewen suspended my account. Accused me of phishing when i was not even asking anyone for personal information at all. They claim unlimited storage and I uploaded 6GB of courses I had and that made them take my service down. I would not recommend this service to anyone. They take forever to answer, too. When you start, they ask what domain you want to register, like if they offered TLDs, I then discovered that they don’t so I had to go register a domain somewhere else.
